Project Background

The Lynnwood Link Extension is a key part of Sound Transit mass transit system expansion approved by voters in 2008. Targeted for completion in late 2023, Lynnwood Link will add 8.5 miles of light rail from the Northgate Station in Seattle to the Lynnwood Transit Center, providing an alternative to congested roadways in one of the most densely developed urban areas in the Pacific Northwest.

Project schedule

From 2010 to 2015, Sound Transit began planning and conducting an environmental review for the Lynnwood Link Extension Project. Following the environmental review, the project moved into the final design phase in early 2016. Currently, the project has advanced to 60% design completion. Construction is scheduled to start in 2018 and finish in2023.

Benefits of your future ride

Commuters from the Lynnwood Transit Center will enjoy 13-minute Link light rail rides to Northgate Mall, 18-minute rides to the U District, 27-minute rides to downtown Seattle and 60-minute rides to Sea-Tac Airport. Trains from Lynnwood will also serve the eastside and reach downtown Bellevue in 51 minutes and the Overlake Transit Center in 59 minutes.

Riding Lynnwood Link can save you 14-16 minute on your daily peak morning commutes, which is equivalent to 65 hours per year. In that time, you could watch 32 movies!

Each link car can hold four bicycles, four wheelchairs, 200 riders, and multiple suitcases. The train runs every four minutes during peak weekday commutes.
